  • How was the proposed capacity determined?
  • Are there rooms that have historically been too warm or too cold?

  • Are airflow or duct limitations affecting the recommendation?

In Central Florida, comfort is not only about dropping the thermostat temperature. Moisture removal and runtime behavior matter too. An oversized system can satisfy temperature quickly while still leaving comfort or humidity problems unresolved.

Florida is in the federal Southeast region for central-air-conditioner efficiency standards.

For systems subject to the current regional standard, the U.S. Department of Energy lists minimum SEER2 levels for split-system central air conditioners installed in the Southeast of:

  • 14.3 SEER2 for split-system air conditioners below 45,000 Btu/h; and
  • 13.8 SEER2 for split-system air conditioners at or above 45,000 Btu/h.

Do not use those numbers as a shopping target by themselves. They are a compliance floor for applicable equipment, not a promise that a higher rating automatically produces the best payback or comfort for every home.

Ask for the rating of the specific matched equipment combination being quoted.

4. What happens to the refrigerant lines

The proposal should say whether the existing line set is being reused, flushed/cleaned where appropriate, modified, or replaced, and why.

Questions to ask:

  • Is the existing line set compatible with the new equipment and refrigerant?
  • Are the line size, length, and routing acceptable for the manufacturer's requirements?
  • If it is reused, what preparation is included?

5. Condensate drainage
