The most common reasons the numbers are different

  • one quote is install-only and another includes finished paint
  • profile/material quality differs
  • wall repair after removal is included or excluded
  • door/window casing or closets are counted differently
  • matching work requires more labor than full-room replacement

A higher price is not automatically better

More money only means more value when the proposal explains what additional work, material, risk or responsibility the price actually buys.

A lower price is not automatically wrong

A contractor may genuinely be more efficient or have better buying power. The problem is a low number that depends on omitted work or unrealistic assumptions.
