The answer
Here’s what actually matters.
HVAC problems can come from equipment, controls, airflow, ductwork, insulation or installation—not just “the AC unit.” Repair makes sense when the fault is limited and the system is otherwise serviceable; replacement becomes more attractive when repairs are frequent, comfort is poor, operating cost is rising or the equipment is near the end of its useful service life.
Florida licensing boundary
Who must handle the regulated work.
Central air-conditioning installation, repair and alteration fall within licensed HVAC/mechanical contracting scopes in Florida. Work outside the HVAC contractor’s lawful scope—such as unrelated general electrical or plumbing work—must be assigned to the appropriately licensed trade.
